For the 21st Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) held on July 7–8, 1999, the National Academy of Science and Technology Philippines (NAST PHL) adopted the theme “Food, Population and Environment.” The meeting highlighted the interrelated challenges of ensuring food security, managing population growth, and protecting the environment—issues considered critical to national development. Through discussions and the sharing of expertise among scientists and stakeholders, the ASM aimed to generate greater national awareness and encourage informed and rational solutions that would help secure adequate food for Filipinos while promoting environmental sustainability.
