VOLUME 48 (2026)

For the 48th Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) to be held on July 8–9, 2026, the National Academy of Science and Technology Philippines (NAST PHL) adopted the theme “UN SDGs: Science, Technology, and Innovation for Sustainable Development.” The meeting will focus on assessing the contributions of science, technology, and innovation (STI) in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), emphasizing the need for innovative, scalable, and cost-effective solutions to address complex social, economic, environmental, and political challenges. Discussions will highlight the role of STI in advancing sustainable development through evidence-based policies, research and development, technological transformation, and international cooperation, while also examining strategies, barriers, tipping points, and interventions necessary for accelerating progress toward the SDGs. This year’s ASM will likewise emphasize the importance of transformation pathways such as the “S-curve” model of emergence, acceleration, and stabilization in adopting sustainable technologies and practices. Significantly, this volume also marks the beginning of NAST PHL’s 50th anniversary celebration, anchored on the theme “ALAB: Agham ang Liwanag na Abot-Kamay ng Bayan,”(Science is the Light Within Our Nation’s Reach) which reflects the Academy’s enduring commitment to making science accessible, inclusive, and transformative for all Filipinos. Celebrating five decades of scientific leadership and service, NAST PHL reaffirmed its role as the country’s premier advisory and recognition body in science and technology, dedicated to promoting scientific excellence, evidence-based policymaking, innovation, and the empowerment of future generations through science.
