This theme builds on the Philippine Agriculture 2020 strategy — addressing the stagnation in agriculture, declining GNP share, and persistent rural poverty. The ASM, held on 13-14 July 2011 at the Manila Hotel, gathered over 700 scientists and researchers to discuss key concerns vital for modernizing agriculture, such as managing marine resources, intensifying agriculture despite limited land and water, sustaining organic agriculture, strengthening supply chains, sustaining ecological services, and improving agriculture extension, communication, and statistics. Outcomes from these discussions aimed to enhance productivity, global competitiveness, and sustainability in the agriculture sector.
