The role of Plant Physiologists at IRRI in the Green Revolution is presented. Morphological and physiological basis of high-yielding plant types; increasing grain yield potential; tolerance of rice to low temperature at different growth stages; flood tolerance; and development of screening methods for adverse climatic conditions are discussed. The present high-yielding rice varieties have reached their potential.
